I got this recipe from astay-at-home mom's blog named Robin's song. It is far superior to any storebought. I make the recipe with a third of these measurements because it is a huge batch of just one color. I put a drop of peppermint extract in, it covers any floury, pasty smell. Use regular table salt for this, once I only had kosher salt in the house and the dough was a bit grainy. Please note, this is safe and non-toxic but not edible playdough. Ingredients:
3 cups flour |
1 1/2 cups salt |
3 cups water |
2 tablespoons vegetable oil |
1 tablespoon cream of tartar |
food coloring |
Directions:
1. Place all ingredients into a large saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and gets too thick to stir (about 10-15 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool until it can be handled. Place on counter or wax paper and knead several times until smooth. Store in an air-tight container. |
