I have no clue why we called it Texas Hash but this simple and inexpensive recipe is something my family always cooks for our ultimate comfort food. It's hardy and great on a college budget; also it's super easy and quick. My sister and mother argue a little bit on the preparation; my mom refuses to add milk and butter, while my sister swears by it. I've tried it both ways and can't really tell the difference. I usually make it without because I hardly ever keep milk in the house.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 is best)
1 (7 1/4 ounce) box kraft macaroni and cheese
1/4 cup milk (optional)
4 tablespoons butter (optional)
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can campbell's tomato soup
Directions:
1. Brown ground beef in a skillet on medium high. In a pot, boil 6 cups of water and cook the macaroni as the box directs.
2. After the beef is cooked, drain the fat; once the macaroni is cooked, drain the water.
3. Mix cooked macaroni, powdered cheese packet, ground beef and can of tomato soup in a pot (you may also add the milk and butter at this point if you choose).
4. Make sure all the ingredients are well mixed and serve.
