The origin of this little high tea morsel has been debated since the 1700's and is good served anytime with Tea. Personally, I just like it as a different form of grilled cheese with some snap to it! Very tasty! Ingredients:
4-6 thick slices of crusty bread |
4 tbs butter, softened, plus 1 tbs more for toasting |
1 tsp prepared mustard |
1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce |
pinch of cayenne/red pepper |
8 oz of grated cheddar cheese (or really nice sharp cheese) |
2 tbs milk or ale/beer |
Directions:
1. Butter one side of the bread and toast under a hot broiler until golden. 2. Mix together the remaining ingredients to create a cheese spread. 3. Spread onto the un-toasted side of the bread and broil until brown and bubbly. 4. Serve warm with sliced tomatoes. 5. Heavenly! 6. Optional for a Brunch Idea: (If you serve it topped with a poached egg, then it's called a Golden Buck.) LOL! |
