After seeing a bottle of bread dipping oil for $25 in a specialty store, I decided to make my own! This is perfect for dipping crusty Italian bread. Ingredients:
1 tablespoon dried oregano |
1 tablespoon dried basil |
1 tablespoon dried rosemary |
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme |
1 tablespoon cracked red pepper |
1 tablespoon granulated garlic or garlic powder |
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 cup + 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil |
3 medium or large cloves garlic, minced |
crusty italian or french bread |
Directions:
1. Mix all the herbs together and grind. Use a mortar and pestle for best results. 2. For individual servings, divide the herb mixture between 8 shallow dipping bowls. 3. In a small skillet, add the oil and heat. Add the garlic and stir, heating for 30 seconds to 1 minute. You don't want the garlic browned, you just want to flavor the oil. 4. Remove from heat. 5. Ladle 2-3 tablespoons over each individual serving bowl with the herbs. Give a quick stir. 6. Serve with crusty Italian or French Bread. 7. If making one dish for dipping, just put the herbs in the dish and pour the oil over top the herbs. |
