My family loves this family recipe for swiss steak. As a kid I loved to come home from school and smell this cooking in the crock pot. My Mom serves it with white rice or buttered egg noodles, I love it with steamed veggies. For easy clean up I use either a Reynolds crock-pot liner (hard to find) or dump all ingredients (except mushrooms or they will be real soft) in a Reynolds oven-bag twist-tie and put the whole thing in the crock pot, pop on the lid and in 6-8hrs, viola dinner. Ingredients:
1 -2 lb beef bottom round steak |
4 tablespoons flour |
1 medium onion (chopped) |
3 garlic cloves (chopped or pressed) |
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce |
1 package dry beefy onion soup |
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can tomato soup |
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can stewed tomatoes (diced) |
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce |
1 teaspoon pepper |
1 lb mushroom (sliced) |
Directions:
1. layer ingredients in crock pot except mushrooms. 2. cook on low 4 hours 3. add mushrooms. 4. cook 2 more hrs or until meat reaches desired tenderness. |
