SWISS PEAR BACON STRATA This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Harrison Estate in Crandall, Texas in 1999. Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter |
3 medium pears peeled and coarsely chopped |
3 tablespoons packed brown sugar |
4 cups cubed firm bread |
1 pound bacon crisply cooked and coarsely chopped |
2 cups shredded swiss cheese |
2-1/2 cups milk |
1 teaspoon ground dry mustard |
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper |
5 eggs |
Directions:
1. Grease a casserole dish then melt butter in skillet over medium heat. 2. Cook pears in butter 3 minutes stirring occasionally until crisp tender. 3. Stir in brown sugar then reduce heat to low and cook 6 minutes stirring occasionally. 4. Layer half each of the bread, bacon, pears and cheese in casserole. 5. Repeat with remaining bread, bacon, pears and cheese. 6. Mix remaining ingredients then pour over cheese. 7. Cover tightly and refrigerate at least 2 hours but no longer than 24 hours. 8. Heat oven to 350 then bake uncovered 45 minutes and let stand 10 minutes before serving. |
