This was from a friend at Hope Lodge. Yes, we sat around talking about recipes guys. It was a lot of fun, a lot of laughing, a lot of remembering. I haven't tried it yet.
Ingredients:
1 cup milk, scalded
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon salt
3 teaspoons yeast
4 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups rye meal
2 cups white flour
1 egg white
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon caraway seed
Directions:
1. Combine hot milk, molasses, brown sugar and salt. and butter.
2. Cool mixture to lukewarm; . Add yeast to cooled milk.
3. Add flours to make a stiff dough.
4. Let double; punch down.
5. Put cornmeal under.
6. Brush with egg white and 1 tablespoon water.
7. Sprinkle with caraway seed.
8. Slash the dough before baking.
