This was from a friend at Hope Lodge. Yes, we sat around talking about recipes guys. It was a lot of fun, a lot of laughing, a lot of remembering. I haven't tried it yet. Ingredients:
1 cup milk, scalded |
1/2 cup molasses |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1 tablespoon salt |
3 teaspoons yeast |
4 tablespoons butter |
1 1/2 cups rye meal |
2 cups white flour |
1 egg white |
1 tablespoon water |
1 teaspoon caraway seed |
Directions:
1. Combine hot milk, molasses, brown sugar and salt. and butter. 2. Cool mixture to lukewarm; . Add yeast to cooled milk. 3. Add flours to make a stiff dough. 4. Let double; punch down. 5. Put cornmeal under. 6. Brush with egg white and 1 tablespoon water. 7. Sprinkle with caraway seed. 8. Slash the dough before baking. |
