This is a recipe a good friend gave me a long time ago. I had never been able to make bread before this recipe! It is a wonderful recipe whether you want rolls, loaves, breadsticks, whatever. I also add cheese to mine every once in a while just for a little extra flavor. Read more . You can add just about anything you can think of and even make cinnamon rolls from this dough! I usually triple the recipe for this when I make it, as everyone wants some of it! Ingredients:
1 tbsp active dry yeast |
1/2 cup warm water |
1/2 lukewarm milk (scalded, then cooled) |
1/3 cup sugar |
1/3 cup butter |
1 tsp. salt |
1 egg |
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl. 2. Stir in milk, sugar, butter, salt, egg & 1 cup of the flour. 3. Beat until smooth. 4. Mix in enough of the remaining flour to make the dough easy to handle. 5. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about five minutes. 6. Place in a greased bowl; turn greased side up. 7. Cover, let rise in a warm place until double in size, about 1 1/2 hours. (Dough is ready if an indention remains when touched.) 8. Punch Dough down. 9. This is when I add my cheese, garlic, whatever flavor I am playing with that day. 10. Shape, let rise and bake. (preheated, 350 degree oven, about 20-25 mintues) |
