THIS IS AN OLD RECIPE GIVEN TO ME BY MY AUNT, WHO GOT IT FROM HER MOM, WHO GOT IT ... IT'S OLD!
Ingredients:
25 cucumbers small. no bigger than 6 inches.
brine
alum
2 quarts white sugar
2 sticks cinnamon
1 tbsp. whole cloves
1 quart vinegar (or more
1 egg raw in shell
Directions:
1. PLACE CUCUMBERS IN BRINE SALTY ENOUGH TO FLOAT THE EGG. LEAVE FOR 5 DAYS.
2. REMOVE FROM BRINE AND WASH IN FRESH COOL WATER, SLICE 1/4 INCH OR THICKER.
3. PLACE IN FRESH WATER WITH ALUM, LET STAND OVERNIGHT.
4. HEAT YOUR VINEGAR, SUGAR AND SPICES, POUR OVER CUCUMBERS AND FOR 4 DAYS DRAIN, REHEAT AND REPEAT … ON THE 4TH SEAL IN CLEAN JARS.
5. I ADD GREEN FOOD COLORING, BUT RECIPE DOES NOT CALL FOR IT.
