What an incredible way to cook onions. This is awesome and one of our favorite sides. Goes good with everything. I obtained this recipe when I purchased the family collection from the Printey Estate in Forney, Texas in 2001. Read more . It has been a mainstay since the first time I made it. Ingredients:
1 pound white onions sliced and separated into rings |
1-cup buttermilk |
1-tablespoon cornstarch |
2 egg whites |
1/2-teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper |
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese |
paprika |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. 2. In medium saucepan combine onions with water to cover then bring to boil and boil for 1 minute. 3. Drain well then transfer to square baking dish sprayed with cooking spray. 4. In bowl combine buttermilk and cornstarch and stir until cornstarch is completely dissolved. 5. Mix in egg whites, salt and pepper then pour over onions. 6. Sprinkle with cheese then paprika and bake for 25 minutes. |
