You shouldn't eat too many of these but then again, they are one of those forbidden fried treats that we want more of. Ingredients:
4-1/2 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour, sifted |
9 oz (250 ml) water |
5 tbsp. brown sugar |
2 eggs |
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract |
10-1/2 oz (300 ml) vegetable oil for frying |
Directions:
1. Mix the flour with 9 oz (250 ml) of water to make a dough. 2. Dissolve sugar in a little water. 3. Beat eggs and mix with sugar and vanilla extract. 4. Stir into dough. 5. Knead the batter until smooth and elastic. 6. Turn onto greased surface and roll into a long roll and cut into 10 round pieces. 7. Roll each piece into a small strip. 8. Fold each strip double and twist into a yarn-like stick. 9. Heat oil in a deep wok to about 230 degrees. 10. Deep-fry dough twists slowly until lightly browned and crisp. 11. Remove, drain well, and serve. 12. I like to sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and confectioners' sugar over these. |
