This ramen hack dresses up packaged ramen with fresh ingredients. This particular version is a take-off of gloppy, tangy, luridly red Chinese-American sweet-and-sour dishes. Ingredients:
1 (3 -4 ounce) package ramen noodles, any flavor |
1 tablespoon vegetable oil |
1/2 red bell pepper, cut in 1-inch squares |
3 -4 ounces spam or 3 -4 ounces ham, cut in bite-size chunks |
1 (7 ounce) can pineapple chunks in juice |
1/2 cup ketchup |
chili-garlic sauce, to taste |
Directions:
1. Boil ramen in water until they soften and the noodles separate. Drain and set aside. 2. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a skillet until it shimmers. Add the bell pepper and Spam and saute until hot. Add pineapple (with its juice), ketchup, chili-garlic sauce and noodles. Toss until coated and serve. |
