This recipe comes from Melting Pot Potluck. It was put together to announce the arrival of a new pastor and his wife. Origin: Jewish. Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef |
1 egg |
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (soak in hot water) |
1 onion, grated |
1 tablespoon mustard |
garlic powder |
salt and pepper |
paprika |
1 onion, cut fine |
shortening |
5 lemons, juice of |
water (slightly less in quantity than lemon) |
2 cups brown sugar |
1 (12 ounce) can tomato sauce |
3/4 cup raisins |
Directions:
1. .Mix beef, egg, onion, mustard, and spices (except paprika). Form into small meatballs; cover with paprika and broil on both sides. For sauce, brown onion in shortening. Add lemon juice, water, sugar, and tomato sauce. Bring to a boil and pour over meatballs. Put in roaster and add raisins. Bake uncovered for about 1 1/2 hours. (Meatballs can be made ahead of time and baked on day of use.). |
