If you don't like the sour of kraut, you'll like this twist. It can be eaten as a side dish or served on top of hot dogs or pork. Ingredients:
4 bacon strips, diced |
1 medium onion, chopped |
1 bag (27 ounces) sauerkraut, rinsed and drained |
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, drained |
1 cup packed brown sugar |
Directions:
1. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp. 2. Remove with a slotted spoon to paper towels. 3. Drain, reserving 1 Tablespoon of the drippings. 4. Saute onion in the drippings until tender. 5. Stir in sauerkraut, tomatoes, brown sugar and bacon. 6. Bring to a boil. 7. Transfer to a greased 1-1/2 quart baking dish. 8. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until bubbly. 9. Serve. |
