Green beans and bacon go great together. The sweet and sour flavor is a good side dish for fish, roast beef or fried chicken. You can serve this dish hot or chilled. Ingredients:
2 16oz cans of cut green beans |
4 strips of bacon |
1 large onion, chopped |
2 tbsp all-purpose flour |
2 tsp salt |
1/2 tsp pepper |
4 tbsp sugar |
1/2 cup vinegar |
Directions:
1. Open green beans. Drain the liquid from one can and reserve the liquid from the other. 2. In a frying pan fry the bacon until crispy. Reserve the drippings. Crumble the bacon. 3. Saute the onion in the bacon drippings. 4. Stir in the flour, liquid from the beans, salt, pepper and vinegar. Bring to a boil. 5. Add the drained green beans and crumbled bacon. 6. Cook until warmed through. 7. You may chill this over night to serve cold. 8. For variations you can add sliced, fresh mushrooms, a few bits of chopped red bell pepper, and/or a bit of chopped fresh white onion. |
