A co-worker of mine brought these to an office potluck at least 25 years ago and they were gone before everyone even got into the room. The sauce is wonderful. Ingredients:
2 lbs lean ground beef or 2 lbs chuck |
1/2 cup breadcrumbs |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
1/2 cup milk |
2 eggs |
1/2 cup catsup |
1/2 cup chili sauce |
2 tablespoons vinegar |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
2 teaspoons dry mustard |
1 tablespoon butter |
1 tablespoon chili powder |
Directions:
1. For meatballs:. 2. Combine the first 5 ingredients and mix lightly to blend. 3. Shape into meatballs the size of large marbles. Arrange in a shallow baking pan (preferably on a rack if available). 4. Bake in a 500 degree oven for 4 to 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove and add to prepared sauce. 5. For sauce:. 6. MIx remaining 7 ingredients in a large saucepan until bubbly. Add browned meatballs and let simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes. 7. The servings will vary - depending of if you are serving it as an appetizer or a main meal. |
