I have been making these forever. It has been handed down from generation to generation. These are a great buttery cookie. They are delicious. They even get better as they age. Enjoy. These are fast to make and bake. Ingredients:
4 cups sifted flour |
2 cups softened sweet butter |
1 cup sugar |
1 egg well beaten |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Measure and sift flour, again, measure and sift again. 2. Set this aside. 3. Cream butter with mixer really well, add sugar SLOWLY & keep creaming until light and fluffy. 4. Add egg and beat well. 5. Add sifted flour small amount at a time. Mixing well after each addition. 6. Add vanilla 7. Divide dough into 2 batches. 8. Shape each batch into a long roll about 12 inches & 1 1/2 in diameter. 9. Chill overnight. 10. Before baking take the rolls out 20 minutes before baking. 11. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 12. On un-greased cookie sheet or sheet lined with parchment paper (which I use) 13. Slice cookies very thin 1/4 thin or less, if you cut this thicker it is more like shortbread, both ways are wonderful. I prefer thin. 14. Bake these on 400 degrees for ONLY 4-5 minutes tops! 15. These are not to brown. 16. They may brown a bit on edges that is ok, don’t let all the cookie brown. I watch them very carefully so they don't brown at all. But if edges |
