I have been making these forever. It has been handed down from generation to generation. These are a great buttery cookie. They are delicious. They even get better as they age. Enjoy. These are fast to make and bake.

4 cups sifted flour
2 cups softened sweet butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg well beaten

Directions:
1. Measure and sift flour, again, measure and sift again.
2. Set this aside.
3. Cream butter with mixer really well, add sugar SLOWLY & keep creaming until light and fluffy.
4. Add egg and beat well.
5. Add sifted flour small amount at a time. Mixing well after each addition.
6. Add vanilla
7. Divide dough into 2 batches.
8. Shape each batch into a long roll about 12 inches & 1 1/2 in diameter.
9. Chill overnight.
10. Before baking take the rolls out 20 minutes before baking.
