I was in the mood for vegetables tonight so I threw this together. I ended up adding bacon and ham which was not my original intent but I wanted some more flavor. It was delicious! I had seconds (which, if you knew me, that's saying something!).
Ingredients:
2 slices bacon
1 tablespoon butter or 1 tablespoon margarine
1 onion, small, chopped
5 red potatoes, diced
1 head green cabbage, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup water, hot
8 ounces ham, chunks
fresh ground pepper
1 teaspoon celery salt (approximate)
1 teaspoon white pepper (approximate)
1/2 teaspoon cumin (approximate)
Directions:
1. In large skillet, fry bacon until crisp. Add butter & melt.
2. Add onion and potatoes to skillet; stir & cook until browned over medium to medium high heat.
3. Add chopped cabbage, stir fry until starting to wilt.
4. Add water.
5. Allow to cook over medium to medium high heat until cabbage is wilted and potatoes are tender. Add seasonings and ham. Stir to heat ham through.
6. You may add salt & pepper to your taste after cooking. Seasonings are approximate-you may adjust to your taste preference.
