These biscuits are tender every time! My kids love these with sausage gravy, but I think I like them best with lots of butter and strawberry jam! Ingredients:
1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour |
3 t. powdered milk |
2 t. sugar |
2 1/2 t. baking powder |
3/4 t. salt |
1 good pinch cream of tartar |
1/4 c. butter-flavored shortening |
2/3 c. buttermilk |
1/4 c. melted margarine, divided |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. 2. Stir together dry ingredients in a medium bowl. 3. Cut in the shortening until blended thoroughly. 4. Stir in buttermilk and 2 T. of the melted margarine until well blended. 5. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for 1 minute, or until smooth and elastic. 6. Roll out dough to 1/2 - 3/4 thickness; cut with a floured biscuit cutter; place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet. 7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden. 8. Brush hot biscuits with remaining melted margarine. |
