Have had this recipe for years, can't remember where I got it, being that my husband had an Italian family with so many good cooks. Is excellent served with Italian Meatballs, with fresh grated Parmasen cheese sprinkled over pasta, and a glass of Chianti wine. Don't forget the garlic bread!!! If you can buy canned San Marzano tomatoes, they are the best. Ingredients:
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste |
1 (28 ounce) can whole canned tomatoes (chopped and with sauce) |
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes |
4 -5 garlic cloves (minced) |
15 -20 fennel seeds |
5 basil leaves (chopped) |
2 tablespoons olive oil |
1 tablespoon sugar (optional) |
2 tablespoons parsley |
1/2 cup water |
salt & pepper |
Directions:
1. Heat Olive oil in saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic, saute for 1 minute, add remaining ingredients and simmer. Simmer for at least 1 hour. |
