My great-grandma's recipe. Pretty standard, but soft and delicious. Ingredients:
1/3 cup blackstrap molasses |
2 cups flour |
1 egg |
3/4 cup shortening |
1 cup sugar |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon ginger |
1 teaspoon allspice |
Directions:
1. Cream shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses. 2. Mix other ingredients in separate bowl. 3. Add molasses mixture. 4. Roll into balls. 5. Roll in (additional) sugar. 6. Place on ungreased baking sheet. 7. DO NOT press down. 8. Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes. |
