I had forgotten about this recipe, until I went through my Grandmother's recipes. She used to make this for us when I was small. The last time I had this I was around 8 years old! Ingredients:
2 eggs |
2/3 cup milk |
2 tbsp sugar |
1 tsp vanilla |
6 - 1' thick slices of french bread |
2 tbsp margarine or butter |
1 tbsp margarine or butter |
2 tbsp sugar |
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon |
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, beat together eggs, milk, 2 tbsp sugar and vanilla. 2. Place bread in a 2-quart baking dish. 3. Pour egg mixture over bread, turn to coat. 4. Refrigerate 20 to 30 minutes or until egg is absorbed. 5. In large skillet or griddle, melt 2 tbsp margarine or butter over medium heat. 6. Cook bread on both sides about 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown. 7. Transfer to baking sheet, brush tops of bread with 1 tbsp of melted margarine or butter. Combine 2 tbsp sugar adn the cinnamon, sprinkle on bread slices. 8. Broil 4 inches from heat for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes, just until sugar is carmalized. |
