These are so yummy, I use different cookie cutters for each season, (Valentines day hearts are my favorite) they are beautiful, and are never around long enough to see how they age. Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening |
1 cup sugar |
2 eggs |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 butter |
2 tablespoons butter |
1 (16 ounce) package powdered sugar |
1/4 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
food coloring |
Directions:
1. Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until fluffy. 2. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. 3. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. 4. Divide dough in half; wrap in wax paper, chill at least one hour. 5. Roll half of dough to 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface; keep remaining dough chilled. Cut dough with a cookie cutter. 6. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet; bake at 350 for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. 7. Cool on wire rack. 8. Cream butter; graduallly add sugar, beating until blended. Add milk and vanilla, mixing until smooth, Stir in food coloring, if desired. 9. Spread on cookies. |
