Grandmas old fashioned stew that really sticks to your ribs! Ingredients:
6 beef shanks |
1c burgandy |
1 medium brown onion |
salt to taste |
1 bay leaf |
6 pepper corns |
3 medium potatoes |
8 carrots |
1 bunch celery especially the leaves |
1 clove garlic |
1/3c barely |
parsley |
flour |
Directions:
1. Boil in enough water to adequately cover for 3 hours: beef, burgandy, onion, salt, bayleaf, and pepper corns. 2. Next remove bones and break up meat into chunks. 3. Add the potatoes, carrots, celery, garlic, and barley. 4. Simmer unti done. 5. Thicken with 1 to 2 table soons flour stirred into 1/2 cup water then stirred into the stew. 6. Simmer 10 minutes longer. 7. Sprinkle on parsley to taste after stew is done cooking. |
