Grandmas delicious soup any time of year! My daughter loves it! Ingredients:
1lb dried split peas |
4 carrots |
1 medium brown onion |
2 cloves garlic |
1 whole bunch celery with leaves |
ham bone with sufficient ham remaining |
1 bay leaf |
6 pepper corns |
salt to taste |
Directions:
1. Soak dried peas overnight. 2. Wash with water until the water runs clear. 3. Simmer on low heat with the ham and bay leaf. 4. When the peas are tender, remove the ham bone and set aside to cool. 5. Once cool remove ham from bone and break up into bite sized pieces. 6. Add chopped carrots, onion and celery. 7. Simmer until tender. 8. Run the soup through a soup mill BEFORE adding the ham back to the soup. 9. Serve with Garlic bread. |
