It sounds kinda strange but they are fantastic! Try them before you judge them! Ingredients:
3/4c shortening |
1c brown sugar |
1 3/4c flour |
1/2tsp baking soda |
1tsp salt |
1 1/2c rolled oats |
date filling |
3c cut up dates |
1/4c sugar |
1 1/2c water |
Directions:
1. Make date filling below then: 2. Mix together thoroughly shortening and brown sugar. 3. Sift together and stir in: flour, salt, and baking soda. 4. Stir in the rolled oats. 5. Mix thoroughly. 6. Place half of this crumb mixture in greased 13 x 9 1/2 x 2 inch pan. 7. Press and flatten with hands to cover bottom of pan. 8. Spread with date filling(cover with remaining crumb mixture and pat lightly). 9. Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 400 degrees until lightly browned. 10. While warm cut into bars and remove from pan. 11. Date filling: 12. Mix date filling ingredients in a saucepan. 13. Cover over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened (about 10 minutes). |
