Traditional Polish holiday recipe. Ingredients:
2 heads cabbage |
2 lbs ground beef |
2 lbs ground pork |
salt |
pepper |
onion powder |
2 cups uncooked rice |
2 (16 ounce) cans sauerkraut |
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce |
1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes |
3 -4 slices bacon |
water |
Directions:
1. Steam cabbage, remove leaves, and de-vein. 2. Mix ground beef and ground pork well. 3. Add salt, pepper, and onion powder to taste. 4. Mix in uncooked rice. 5. Roll meat and rice mixture in cabbage leaves tucking ends closed. 6. Place in large pot. 7. Fill pot with water just to cover cabbage rolls. 8. Add sauerkraut, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. 9. Place bacon on top. 10. Bring to boil on top of stove. 11. Cook on low heat approximately 2 hours or until rice is soft and fluffy. |
