My favorite way to eat Italian sausage. I always thought sausage was inedible until I baked it using this method. Especially great with Bocca Vegetarian Italian sausage! Ingredients:
italian vegetarian sausages or sweet italian turkey sausage |
provolone cheese |
marinara sauce |
your favorite bread or rolls, recipe or you could use frozen/thawed bread dough |
marinara sauce |
Directions:
1. Cook sausages by removing casing (if there is one) and placing sausages in a baking dish covered with marinara. 2. For Italian vegetarian sausage (like Boca) I cook them in marinara for about 30 minutes. 3. For meat sausages, bake on about 250 for several hours. 4. Cover for the first half of baking. 5. This process will ensure a very tender, tasty sausage. 6. Roll out prepared bread dough to about1/4 thick or so. 7. Cut rectangular shapes from the dough. 8. Place one sausage, sprinkle of provolone cheese, and a few tablespoons of marinara sauce on the dough section. 9. Roll dough around the sausage, etc. 10. and pinch together to seal, also sealing at both ends. 11. Let rise a few minutes on a greased cookie sheet. 12. Bake at 375* or 400* until the bread is done. 13. Serve with additional marinara sauce. |
