A yummy sweet crumb layer tops this old-fashioned apple dessert. Combined with its custard-like filling, this treat is simply irresistible. Marie Hattrup, Sparks, Nevada Ingredients:
1 egg, lightly beaten |
4-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice |
5 cups sliced peeled tart apples |
1/2 cup golden raisins |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts |
1/3 cup sugar |
1/3 cup king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
topping: |
1/3 cup king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1/3 cup packed brown sugar |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
3 tablespoons cold butter |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine egg and lemon juice. Add the apples, raisins and walnuts; toss to coat. Combine the sugar, flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt; sprinkle over apple mixture and toss to coat. Spoon into an 8-in. square baking dish coated with cooking spray. 2. For topping, combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon peel and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apple mixture. Bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes or until filling is bubbly and top is golden brown. Serve warm. Yield: 9 servings. |
