GREAT HOMEMADE SHORTCAKE WITH STRAWBERRY TOPPING TOPPED WITH ICE CREAM OR WHIPPED CREAM OR BOTH. OUR FAMILY LOVES IT ESPECIALLY WHEN WE'VE MADE HOME-MADE VANIILA ICE CREAM Ingredients:
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour |
4 t.baking powder |
1/2 t salt |
1/2 t cream of tarter |
1/4 c sugar |
1/2 c butter |
1/3 c milk |
1 egg |
butter |
3 pints strawberries, sliced and sweetened |
2 cups whipped cream |
we add vanilla to the whipped cream |
Directions:
1. SIFT FLOUR, BAKING POWDER, SALT, CREAM OF TARTER AND SUGAR TOGETHER. CUT IN BUTTER UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES COARSE MEAL. COMBINE MILK WITH EGG: STIR INTO FLOUR MIXTURE WITH A FORK UNTIL DOUGH SOFT DOUGH IS FORMED. TURN OUT ONTO A LIGHTLY FLOURED BOARD AND PAT OR ROLL LIGHTLY AN 8 CIRCLE ABOUT 1/2 THICK. BAKE ON AN UNGREASED BAKING DISH IN 425 OVEN 10 - 12 MINUTES, UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN. SPLIT AND BUTTER BOTH HALVES. PILE STRAWBERRIES AND WHIPPED CREAM BETWEEN LAYERS AND ON TOP. SERVE. YOU CAN TOP WITH ICE CREAM WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SERVE |
