On one of my many cookbook /recipe searches , I found a cookbook called Americana Cookery. I liked the name , but I loved some of the recipes in it even more. Thought I might place some of them here for safe keeping and to share Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sifted flour |
1/3 cup shortening |
1 egg |
1/2 cup walnut pieces |
1 quart strawberry, diced into small pieces |
1/4 cup sugar |
1/2 cup sour cream |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup whipping cream, whipped |
Directions:
1. Combine sour cream, shortening, and egg. 2. Beat until smooth. 3. Add walnuts. 4. Sift dry ingredients together; add to sour cream mixture. 5. Stir just until moistened. 6. Drop by 1/3 C portions onto a greased cookie sheet. 7. Bake at 400* for 12-15 min. 8. Split shortcakes. 9. Spoon strawberries and whipped cream over half the shortcakes. 10. Top with remaining shortcakes. 11. Garnish with remaing strawberries ans whipped cream. |
