This is so good on warm homemade bread. If you like both berries, you will love this combo. Only thing is it makes small batches. I have not tried doubling this, as that can be kinda iffy when canning. This makes great gifts as it is kind of unusual. For safety reasons I always boiling water bath for 15 to 20 minutes. Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups bing cherries, pitted |
2 cups sliced strawberries |
3 cups sugar |
1/4 cup lemon juice |
1/4 teaspoon almond extract |
Directions:
1. Combine cherries, strawberries and sugar in pan. 2. Over medium low heat stir until all sugar is dissovled. 3. Increase heat and boil for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. 4. Add lemon juice and almond extract. 5. Bring back to a boil for 3 to 5 minutes, or until mixture reaches jelling stage. 6. Pour into hot stearilized jars and seal. |
