I like these versatile bars because theyâre made from ingredients I almost always have on hand. Sometimes I substitute apricot or peach preserves for the strawberry. Ingredients:
1-1/4 cups king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1/3 cup packed brown sugar |
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed |
topping: |
3/4 cup strawberry preserves |
1/4 cup butter, softened |
1/2 cup king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1/2 cup packed brown sugar |
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon almond extract |
glaze: |
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar |
1/2 teaspoon almond extract |
1 to 2 teaspoons 2% milk |
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, combine flour and brown sugar; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Press into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. 2. Spread preserves over crust. In a small bowl, combine the butter, flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon and extract; sprinkle over preserves. 3. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Combine the confectioners' sugar, almond extract and enough milk to achieve desired consistency; drizzle over warm bars. Cool completely on a wire rack. Yield: 2 dozen. |
