Stewed Beef - Daging Semur |

This is one version of Indonesian Beef Stew. It's sweet and sour (sort of) and one of my favorites. Serve with cooked white rice or fried rice. Ingredients:
1 lb. sirloin steak |
2 cloves garlic |
5 shallots or 1 medium onion |
1 tsp. pepper |
1/2 tsp nutmeg |
2 whole cloves |
salt to taste |
2 tbsp vinegar |
10 oz. water |
1 potato |
1 tomato |
3 tbsp sweet soy sauce |
2 tbsp oil |
Directions:
1. Finely slice the shallots and the garlic. 2. Cut the meat and potato into cubes. 3. Cut the tomato into slices. 4. Heat oil in Dutch Oven, or a wok, and fry the shallots, garlic, pepper, salt, cloves and nutmeg for 2 minutes. 5. Add the meat and fry until brown. 6. Add the potato, tomato, vinegar, sweet soy sauce and water. Simmer slowly for 3 hours. 7. Serve with cooked white rice or fried rice. |
