Just like Grandma's! * Can be doubled; left overs may be frozen. Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs. round steak, cut into bite size pieces |
1 tbsp. margarine |
1 tbsp. vegetable oil |
1 cup sliced onion |
2 celery stalk finely chopped |
1 1/2 tsp. salt |
1/4 tsp. pepper |
1/2 tsp. thyme |
2 cloves garlic thinly sliced |
2 cups water |
1/4 cup red wine |
2 cups potato cubes |
2 cups thinly sliced carrots |
1- 10 oz. can mushroom pieces |
Directions:
1. Add steak a few pieces at a time to margarine and cooking oil in a frying pan. As it browns, remove to medium size saucepan. Add more margarine and cooking oil to frying pan as needed. 2. Add next 8 ingredients to saucepan. Stir. Cover and bring to a boil. Simmer until meat is tender, about 2 hours. 3. Add potato and carrot to meat adding more water as needed. Cook until tender 4. Stir in mushrooms and cook another 5 - 10 minutes. 5. * Is great with Molson Bread. |
