One of my favorite, quick-fix breakfasts... Ingredients:
5 cups hot water |
1 tablespoon unsalted butter |
1 cup steel cut oats |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
3/4 ounce dried apple, finely chopped |
3 tablespoons brown sugar |
Directions:
1. In a pot, melt the butter in the water over a medium heat. 2. Once it reaches a low boil, stir in the oats, salt, cinnamon, and chopped pieces of dried apple. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 30 - 35 minutes, keeping an eye on the water level. (NOTE: Depending on just how dried-out your apple pieces are, they may absorb and reduce the overall amount of liquid in the pot. If, at the twenty-minute mark, it looks like you may run out of water, add a little bit more and increase the heat.). 3. Remove from heat and stir in the brown sugar. 4. Serve hot. |
