This is one of our favorite casseroles. Even if you do not like casseroles, I think you will like this one. Ingredients:
2 lbs round steaks |
1 -2 tablespoon olive oil |
2 lbs potatoes, sliced |
2 large onions, sliced |
3 (6 ounce) cans mushrooms |
salt and pepper |
1 (15 ounce) can chicken broth |
8 ounces tomato sauce |
1/2 cup dry vermouth |
1 teaspoon dried oregano or 1 teaspoon dried italian herb seasoning |
1 dash garlic powder (or more) |
Directions:
1. Cut meat into serving size pieces. 2. Season with salt and pepper and brown in hot oil. 3. Place meat in a large baking dish. 4. Layer potatoes, then onions and then mushrooms over meat. 5. Season potatoes and onions as you go. 6. Mix 1/2 can chicken broth with all other ingredients. 7. Pour over all. 8. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours. 9. After the first hour check liquids and if necessary, add remaining chicken broth. |
