This is the only barbecue sauce my mom ever used. Very flavorful. Not a heavy sauce. Of course, in the south, we have to add a little bacon fat. Ingredients:
1 medium onion, finely chopped |
2 tablespoons butter |
1/2 cup celery, chopped |
2 tablespoons cider vinegar |
4 tablespoons lemon juice |
2 tablespoons brown sugar |
1/8 teaspoon red pepper |
2 tablespoons bacon fat |
1 cup ketchup |
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce |
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard |
1 cup water |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
Directions:
1. Melt butter; add onions and celery; cook til soft. Add remaining ingredients. Stir well and heat to boiling. 2. For spareribs; remove excess fat from ribs, brown on both sides in hot fat. 3. When sauce is boiling, pour over ribs. Bake at 350°F for 1 3/4 to 2 hours. |
