This is my favorite Spritz recipe. I always make them for Christmas to honor my late Norwegian grandmother. Recipe from Doubleday Cookbook. Ingredients:
1 cup butter; softened |
2/3 cup sugar |
2 egg yolks |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 1/2 cups flour; sifted |
optional: colored sugars and sprinkles |
Directions:
1. Beat butter, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla together. 2. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time. 3. Press through a cookie press onto ungreased baking sheets. 4. Sprinkle with colored sugar, if desired. 5. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-9 minutes or until cookies are almost firm but not brown. 6. Let cool on sheets for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to wire racks. 7. Makes 5 dozen. 8. NOTES: I like to make tree shapes, sprinkle with green sugar and multicolored round sprinkles to make them look like decorated Christmas trees. You can also add food color to the dough before baking to make colored cookies. |
