These sloppy joes can be decorated on the bun with olives and cheese to make a monster face, or with olives and bell pepper strips to look like spiders, or (what I do) cheese slices cut to look like a Jack 'O Lantern face. This one is ALL about your imagination when it comes to decorating them. One friend drew a ghostly hand with colored ketchup on the top of her and another cut ghosts out of mozzerella cheese. Let your imagination run wild. Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef |
1 small onion, chopped |
1/2 cup orange bell pepper, chopped |
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce, with basil, garlic and oregano |
1/2 cup chili sauce |
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/8 teaspoon pepper |
4 kaiser rolls, split |
Directions:
1. Brown ground beef with onion and bell pepper in large nonstick skillet over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes or until beef is no longer pink, breaking up into 3/4 inch crumbles. Pour off drippings. 2. Stir in tomato sauce, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Cook an additional 3 minutes or until heated through; stirring occasionally. 3. Spoon equal amounts of beef mixture on bottom half of each roll. 4. Decorate beef mixture or roll tops with vegetable decorations, as desired (see cook’s tips above). Close with top half of each roll. |
