Homemade Split Pea Soup (No ham) Ingredients:
2 cups dry peas |
6 cups water |
1 cup chopped celery |
1/2 chopped onion |
1 cup diced carrots |
1 clove garlic |
3 (pinches) salt |
3 t pepper |
1/4 t thyme |
Directions:
1. Wash and sort peas. Add water and bring to boil,then cover and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour. Add vegetables, bay leaf and thyme. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer covered, 2 1/2 to 3 hours until peas are soft. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Makes 2 quarts. |
