This one is from a 1972 Tennessee cookbook Ingredients:
2 eggs, beaten |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 cup molasses |
3/4 cup shortening (melted) |
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon ground allspice |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1 teaspoon ground cloves |
1 cup boiling water |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar,molasses and melted shortening and add beaten eggs. 2. Sift in dry ingredients and pour in boiling water. 3. Mix well. 4. Pour into two greased and floured cake pans and bake at 350 for about 35 minutes. 5. Serve warm with whipped cream flavored with bourbon,or cut into squares and spread with applesauce. |
