Spicy Fried Green Tomatoes |

A southern delicacy. Ingredients:
3-4 large green tomatoes |
1 cup yellow or white cornmeal |
1 cup all purpose flour |
1 teaspoon salt-or to taste |
1 teaspoon black pepper-or to taste |
1 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper-or to taste |
1 1/2 cup buttermilk |
vegetable oil |
Directions:
1. Slice tomatoes to desired thickness(I usually slice them about 1/4 ). 2. In a medium bowl combine cormeal,flour,salt,black pepper,cayenne peppper,and garlic powder. 3. Pour buttermilk into another bowl. 4. Dip tomato slices into buttermilk the dredge in cornmeal mixture. 5. Repeat unto all slices are coated. 6. Pour 1/4 to 1/2 of oil into a cast iron skillet. Heat over medium high heat to 350 degrees. 7. Fry tomato slices for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown. 8. Drain on paper towels. 9. Serve hot. |
