Ingredients:
1 (16 ounce) can cut-up whole italian-style tomatoes |
1/2 cup wine vinegar |
1/4 cup chopped onion |
1/4 cup chopped celery |
1/4 cup chopped green sweet pepper |
3 tablespoons brown sugar |
2 seeded and chopped jalapeno peppers |
6 cloves garlic, minced |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger |
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes |
1 tablespoon chili powder |
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 1/4-1 1/2 lbs beef flank steak or 1 1/4-1 1/2 lbs sirloin steaks, cut about 1 inch thick |
Directions:
1. For Sauce: In medium saucepan, combine tomatoes, vinegar, onion, celery green pepper, brown sugar, jalapeno pepper, garlic, cinnamon, 1/4 tsp salt, ginger and red pepper. 2. Bring to a boil, reduce heat. 3. Simmer, uncovered, about 20 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally. 4. Meanwhile, combine chili powder, cumin and 1/4 tsp salt. 5. Rub onto both sides of steak. 6. Grill steak on the grill rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 14-16 minutes or to desired doneness. 7. Remove from grill, Let stand for 5 minutes. 8. To serve, thinly slice meat across the grain. 9. Serve with Sauce. |
