Ingredients:
1/2-- ounces fresh yeast ( 15 g).........
3/4-- cup warm milk( 185 g).........
2- cups ( 250 g) flour sifted......
2- tablespoons sugar.....
1/2--teaspoon salt........
1/2- teaspoon ground cinnamon.......
1/4- teaspoon ground cloves......
1, 1/2 - ounces of butter melted ( 45g).........
3/4- cup ( 170g) canned apple slices..........
1/4- teaspoon ground cinnamon plus extra.............
coconut icing
3/4 cup ( 125g) icing sugar sifted ( powdered sugar).............
4- -tablespoons desiccated coconut........
1/2- ounce butter ( 15 g) ..........
1/2- teaspoon vanilla extract............
3- 4 -tablespoons hot water.............
Directions:
1. Place the yeast and milk in a bowl, mix to dissolve and stand in a warm place , draught-free place for 10 minutes or until frothy….
2. Place flour, sugar , salt cinnamon, and cloves in a bowl and mix to combine.
3. Add yeast mixture and butter and mix to form a soft dough.
4. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 5- 8 minutes or until smooth and elastic
5. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic food wrap and stand for 10 minutes
6. Divide dough into 4 portions and roll each into an 8x30 cm ( 3 1/2 inches x 12 inch strip
7. Spoon apple down the center of each strip and sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon ………
8. Fold length wise and seal edges
9. Roll each strip in a sausage shape, then twist 2 rolls together and place on a greased cookie sheet.
10. Repeat with remaining dough
11. Cover the twists with plastic wrap and let stand for 20 minutes or until it is doubled in size….
12. Bake at 350 degrees F ( 180 c) for 20- 25 minutes or until golden and cooked through…….
13. To make the icing ………..
14. Place powdered sugar ( icing sugar) , coconut, butter, vanilla in a bowl and mix to combine
15. Then mix in enough water to make an icing with a thin consistency
16. Spread icing over twists while they are still hot…..
17. Makes 2 loaves………..
18. Tip……. When shaping the twists lightly touch the base of each twist at the end with wet fingertips and press gently onto baking sheet
19. This will prevent the twists from shrinking and curling up during the final rising …………..enjoy
