My grandmother's recipe. Makes a wonderful Christmas gift and fits right in on the Thanksgiving table. Also good in salads. Ingredients:
1 egg white |
1 tablespoon water |
1 lb walnuts |
2/3 cup sugar |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1 teaspoon clove |
3/4 teaspoon ginger |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon coriander |
3/4 teaspoon allspice |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon orange zest |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 250°F. 2. Whip the egg whites and water until frothy. Add walnuts to coat, then drain in sieve. 3. In a paper bag, mix sugar and spices. Shake well. 4. Add walnuts until coated. 5. Lay walnuts on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake at 250 F for 15 minutes. 6. Lower heat to 225 F and continue baking until dry and crisp. 7. Eat warm or store in an airtight container. |
