This is the only way I can get my family to eat cream of wheat or farina. It's the perfect comfort food on a cold winter's morning. Ingredients:
4 cups water |
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
2 tablespoons butter |
1 cup cream of wheat |
1/4 cup white sugar, or to taste |
Directions:
1. Place water, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and butter into a large saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted and the water is steaming but not boiling, whisk in the cream of wheat cereal. Stir constantly until thickened, then reduce heat to low, and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in sugar to taste before serving. |
