This was part of one of her favorite meals that her mother made. Try serving as a side to Beef Rouladen (#22507). Ingredients:
1/2 medium head red cabbage |
1 tablespoon vegetable oil |
1 medium onion |
1 medium tart apple |
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar |
1 tablespoon sugar |
1 bay leaf |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves |
Directions:
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. 2. Meanwhile, dice cabbage. 3. Boil cabbage for 1 minute, drain and return to pot. 4. Chop onion and slice apple. 5. Add with remaining ingredients to the pot of cabbage. 6. Cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, about 1 hour. 7. Remove bay leaf and serve. |
