I found this recipe ages ago in Better Homes and Gardens. I have never made it because it requires a 4-5 quart ice cream freezer which I never went out to get. But it sounds delicious! (Cooking time is chilling time) Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups half-and-half or 2 1/2 cups light cream |
3/4 cup sugar |
1/2 teaspoon fresh nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom |
1/4 teaspoon saffron thread, slightly crushed |
1 1/2 cups whipping cream |
1 tablespoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. In saucepan, bring mixture of 11/2 cups half and half, sugar and spices just to simmer, stirring often. Let cool to room temperature. Cover and chill 2 hours. 2. Combine spice mix with whipping cream, 1 cup half and half, and vanilla. Mix well. Freeze in 4-5 quart ice cream freezer according to manufacturer's directions. 3. Ripen 4 hours. |
