This is wonderful with pork. No amounts are given for the amount of jars to use...so I guessed...because I can't remember...lol Ingredients:
1 lb onion, minced |
5 lbs apples, peeled and chopped |
1 1/2 cups water |
1 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger |
2 teaspoons coarse salt |
1 1/4 tablespoons dry mustard |
10 cloves |
8 whole allspice |
2 cups vinegar |
2 1/2 cups brown sugar |
Directions:
1. Mix together the onions, apples, water, ginger, salt and mustard in a large saucepan. 2. Put the cloves and allspice into a muslin bag and add to the saucepan. 3. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes. 4. Stir in the vinegar and sugar and simmer uncovered for 1 1/2 hours. 5. Remove the muslin bag and when cool, pour the chutney into sterilized jars and seal. 6. May be eaten in a few days. |
